We have taken more than a few road trips with Rowan over the last three years. I guess that’s what happens when you move four hours away from both sides of the family. Road trips have always been relatively easy with Rowan. I don’t know if we just got lucky or what, but one thing I learned about taking road trips with a toddler is snacks are king!
4 Simple Toddler Snack Ideas to Take on the Go
Or snacks for anyone really…
Thank you HIPPEAS for sponsoring this post.
There was a time when I used to only want to make homemade snacks for Rowan, but I learned that life gets busy and sometimes you just need to buy the store-bought snacks. The list below has a mix of homemade and store-bought snacks – because you know that life is about balance.
I also don’t pack a meal – we normally need to stop to take the dog and the toddler out of the car. So the snacks that we bring are simply just snacks. I’m not trying to pack a well-rounded meal.
Snacks that Don’t Need a Cooler
I tend to travel lightly, so most of the snacks that I pack for Rowan and myself don’t have to stay cool. If I need to portion out the snacks I like to use reusable baggies instead of plastic zip lock baggies. My favorite reusable bags right now are Stasher Bags, they are made of silicone and can be found on Amazon or at Target!
1. Fruit: Fresh, Dried, and Leathered
I only really deal with bananas and apples when we are on the road. We love fruit, but with all the juices, fruit could be messy and quite sticky. When on the road, who really has time for that? Instead, I’ll buy dried or fruit leathers from Trader Joes. I would just look at the labels before buying to make sure the ingredients are minimal and there’s not too much or any added sugar. And for apples, sometimes I’ll cheat and buy the pre-sliced bag from the store. When you are on the go, sometimes the easier the better
2. Apple Sauce Pouches
These are a no brainer and a toddler staple. The mess usually is kept contained and keeps them happy.
3. Granola Bars/Protein Bars
Granola bars are an easy answer for snacks on the go. I always have either a Lara Bar or an RX Bar in my purse. I do recommend making your own granola bars if you can. Most store-bought granola bars are filled with sugar and other ingredients that aren’t needed in the bar itself. I don’t have a go to recipe right now, but I usually search for a no sugar recipe on Pinterest and make whatever looks good.
4. HIPPEAS
I just discovered these fun little crunchy snacks. If you frequent Starbucks, you may have seen them with the snacks. Have I mentioned I like having easy, simple, and healthy snacks for Rowan and I? HIPPEAS are the perfect addition to our snack bag. Not only do they have five fun crunchy flavors, they are loaded with 4 grams or protein and 3 grams of fiber per serving. These convenient snacks are also organic, gluten free, vegan, kosher, and non-GMO!
I love the flavors that HIPPEAS are available in: Vegan White Cheddar, Siracha Sunshine, Bohemian Barbecue, Pepper Power, and Far Out Fajita.
Rowan’s favorite flavor is the Vegan White Cheddar because I think he just thinks they are cheese puffs without the cheese and weird ingredients. Me? I love snacking on the Pepper Power flavor!
I usually take them out and travel with them in Stasher Bags, but I think its because if we took a whole bag we would eat it all in an hour!
Best thing about these snacks is that you can buy them on Amazon! But if in store shopping is more your groove HIPPEAS can be found in 30,000 retail locations across the United States at stores like Starbucks, Whole Foods, Safeway, and more!
