It’s finally summer and the first summer Rowan can enjoy as a walking toddler! I decided to write a summer bucket list. Maybe this will become a summer tradition that Rowan can add his ideas to when he gets older!
Summer 2017 Bucket List
Outings Around Town
Visit most, if not all, the Fresno County Public Libraries – We usually visit the same library when we go get new books. I think it would be fun to visit and explore the libraries of our area. Fresno County Public Libraries have a super fun summer schedule that will help us get out to the libraries! Be sure to check out your library schedules for fun summer events!
Weekly (or maybe bi-weekly) trips to the Farmer’s Market – I love the Farmer’s Market. Here in the valley we have a handful of markets we can go to every week. My favorite is always the Old Town Clovis Friday Night Farmer’s Market.
Spend hot mornings at a splash pad. – There are a few parks in Fresno with splash pads that are turned on during the summer months. Since Rowan takes an afternoon nap, the best time to go for us is in the morning. Rowan loves water, but this is the first summer he can really enjoy them.
Activities at Home
Make and use edible finger paint – We recently made a frame for Brady with finger paints, but even if the packaging said non-toxic, I’m not fully convinced. Rowan loves coloring and maybe we can make some fun art as gifts.
Mommy and Me Yoga at home – I am planning on getting back into yoga anyways, why not see if Rowan wants to do it with me?
Have Rowan start doing chores – It’s never too early to have your toddler help out around the house. I’ll probably start out by having him putting items away. Rowan already helps with the dishwasher by putting the silverware away.
Set up new play and toy area in the office – The toys are taking over the living room. I am planning on moving the toys into the office and sharing my space with Rowan. My desk on one side and toy storage on the other. I just need to make the time to set it up and figure out how to have Rowan help me.
Start learning ABCs, Numbers, and Colors – I have always tried surrounding Rowan with these subjects since he was born, but I want him to become more involved. I still haven’t thought of the best method to do this yet, but if you have any ideas let me know.
Make Playdoh with Rowan – I think this is something that Rowan can help make and then play with.
Trips Out of Town
Family trip to Avila Valley Barn – I’ve been wanting to take Rowan to Avila Valley Barn since he was born. I hope we can visit and take a family getaway away from the Fresno heat.
Family Camp at Mount Hermon in Santa Cruz – Every year my husband’s family heads to Santa Cruz to stay at Mount Hermon a family camp in the Santa Cruz Redwoods. Brady and I have been a few times before and last year with Rowan the crawler, but I am excited about letting him explore!
Trips to Orange County – We are always in Orange County since that is where our families live. During one of these trips, I want to take the train down to San Juan Capistrano and take Rowan to Zoomars Petting Zoo.
Day Trip to Yosemite – Since we live in Fresno, Yosemite is only about an hour away (Don’t quote me on that). I’m basically looking for anything that helps us escape the heat!
Wine Tasting in Paso Robles (without Rowan)! – My mom is coming to watch Rowan for a few days and while she is in town, Brady and I are planning on heading out-of-town to do some wine tasting.
I want to know what is on your summer bucket list and if you are taking any trips. Let me know in the comments.

So fun! This is my toddler’s first walking summer too! We love hitting the farmers markets and parks, and there’s a new splash pad opening soon.

This is a great bucket list! I will have to make one with my daughter as well! I like the idea of taking her to the Farmer’s Market.

I love this summer bucket list! There are so many ideas that can carry over to when Rowan is older. My kids are 10 and 14 and we still love to go to the farmer’s market, public libraries, trips to the zoo. We’ve added trips to museums and trips to working and/or historical farms/villages. We are planning on a few camping trips this summer too. Have a great time with your bucket list this summer.

ooh i love all the activities that you named at home — helping with chores and yoga sound so fun. in kentucky, its too hot to go outside! i’m going to have to try the edible finger paint thing! whenever i have all kids at home with me I normally do some sort of baking but since it’s too hot edible finger paint sounds fun!

Love your bucket list. I recently started to think of my own. Keeping it simple for sure. Splash pads will definitely be part of it too

Those sound like fun activities! I need to see if there’s a local mommy and me yoga class around here.

So many great ideas! I wish more of our parks had splash pads. There’s one really cool one but it’s more than an hour away. Enjoy your summer!
