My husband and I finally ran away together. Leaving the Fresno heat and our toddler boss behind. After driving our getaway car for two and a half hours, we hid out at the Avila Village Inn. Hoping no one would find us.
Okay, okay, that’s not the whole story. When you have a kid or kids, running away for a few days takes a little planning. But, trust me. It’s all worth it. (My mom came to watch and play with Rowan. If you were worried…)
Where We Hid Out (or Rather Where We Stayed)
Disclosure: Avila Village Inn had comped our room during our stay. That being said, my opinions are 100% my own.
I am fairly picky when it comes to hotels, so when I found the Avila Village Inn, I knew that it was the perfect place to run off to…I mean stay.
The Avila Village Inn is nestled right next to the San Luis Creek and Bob Jones City to Sea Bike Trail with sycamore and oak trees lining the trail. What’s great about this location is that while you are surrounded by the trees, it is a quick 1.7 mile bike ride to the beach.
When we first pulled up to the Avila Village Inn, I was taken back to our stay at the Disney’s Grand Californian. The craftsman style and the wood decor brought out a classic Californian vibe that I love so much. Think old towns with houses built in the early 1900’s.
The vibe continues through the lobby as we were greeted by friendly faces, a spiral staircase, and a large stone fireplace.
Our room was spectacular and looked out over the trees covering the trail. We stayed in a Hot Tub Deluxe room that included a two person hot tub on the balcony, king sized bed, fire place, wet bar with a keriug coffee maker and a fridge, and a large two sink vanity bathroom.
Oh yeah, there’s free wifi, so if you want to face time your children, you can.
First Night on The Run – Downtown SLO
We ventured into Downtown SLO Thursday Night for the summer’s farmer’s market. I didn’t get any photos of the market, but if you are in town on a Thursday night, go! There are food vendors and local farmers. If you are looking for someone to sit and grab a drink, we checked out SLO Brew.
Don’t forget to stop by Bubble Gum Alley while you’re downtown. Yes, it’s a bunch of gum on walls, but just check it out.
Hiding Out in the Hot Tub
As I mentioned, our room included a hot tub on the balcony. When we were done exploring Downtown SLO, we headed back to the Avila Village Inn to spend the rest of the evening sipping wine in the hot tub. And yes, being the parents that we are, we were in bed by 10:30 PM
