Every summer we spend a week at Mount Hermon Family Camp in the Santa Cruz redwoods with my husband’s family. If you missed the first part of our week at Mount Hermon, check it out here. I go into more detail about what family camp is!

Wednesday a.k.a Train Day
Train day has always been my favorite, even before Rowan joined our party.
On Train Day, everyone gets the opportunity to ride the train through the Santa Cruz redwoods to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The train is called the Beach Train and while you can take it without being at camp from the boardwalk, there’s something about the train being a family camp thing.
Rowan and his cousins always love the ride. I love the photos that come from the train. Brady loves…well, I’m not sure what he loves – I need to ask him one of these days.
So about those photos I like to take…Rowan would not look at me. I guess watching the world go by on the train is better than looking at mama.
Anyways, the train ride is about an hour-long. In addition to riding by the redwoods, the train rides down the center of the street in Santa Cruz before riding along the beach and boardwalk. I don’t know if the city loves it or hates it, but a lot of people wave to us as the train rides by.
We usually only stay at the boardwalk for about two hours and take the early train back to camp at 12:15, so we can get back before nap time. Last year, Rowan fell asleep on the train back.

Once at the boardwalk, my guys were seriously troopers since I put them to work. Brady behind the camera and Rowan in front. Seriously though, the boardwalk is perfect for photos and cotton candy.

We left the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk full of cotton candy ready for naps![spacer height=”20px”]
And about those naps….[spacer height=”20px”]
Rowan literally fell asleep moments after this photo was taken.
Thursday
We spent our morning eating and listening to the morning speaker. Rowan played with the water tables in his class and fell asleep while we were eating lunch for the second time this week.
During his nap, Brady went to play on a kid’s ropes course with his niece and nephew. Mount Hermon has so many activities for kids and families to participate in: a ropes course, archery, row boats, rock walls, and that’s just a few.
After dinner and the evening session, we kept Rowan up past bedtime and roasted S’mores for the first time.

The late bedtime was worth it.
Friday
Brady, Rowan, and I spent the late morning in Downtown Santa Cruz walking Pacific Ave. We ate lunch at Pizza My Heart, I bought a cold brew from verve coffee, and we found a cool wall to take photos on.

And I can’t get coffee without sharing it with my little side kick. Yes, I let him take a sip or two. It’s not worth the fight.

During Rowan’s nap, Brady went to hang on the “big” ropes course. Seriously, its massive.
When Rowan woke up, we walked down to the ropes course. Rowan got a kick out of his dada hanging from the ropes. I didn’t take any good photos of the ropes course. Opps. But we did get some on our hike we took afterwards.

After dinner, we kept Rowan up past his bedtime again to enjoy the activities of the last night. He seemed to enjoy more cotton candy.

Love the photo of you with you laughing with your son. Looks like you created some wonderful memories! xo~D
Your pictures are amazing and it took me back to when we randomly stopped at Santa Cruz Boardwalk on our way back to OC from San Fran. We loved it, and also got some great pictures, I had only 1 5 month old then, so we couldn’t do much with him but I am sure now that the kids are older we will have more fun.
This place looks like so much fun!
That looks so fun! And Rowan’s hoodie is so cute! I wish it was cool enough here for hoodies and jackets!
