As a work from home mom, I have always tried to incorporate health and wellness into my routine from the moment I wake up in the morning. With two kids running around the house and me trying to work, it is important to me to be an example to them through my actions. While I always want to be a good mom, I believe that in order to be a good mom, I need to spend some time focusing on me and participating in a little self-care throughout the day. Selfcare isn’t always spa days, sometimes the best self-care is found in tiny moments of a daily routine.
Waking Up Before the Kids
Piper has been regularly sleeping through the night for the last couple of months, so I have been trying to get up before the kids to get a few moments of quiet before our day begins. I try to wake up between 5 am, and 5:30 am on the days that Brady is working, but I don’t immediately get out of bed. Since I have been focusing on my water intake, I usually keep a water bottle on my nightstand, so when I get up in the morning, I can start consuming water right away. I often sit in bed, drinking my water, and scrolling through my phone for about five minutes in the dark.
Adding Collagen to My Daily Coffee
I will quietly head downstairs to the kitchen to make some coffee. Recently, I started to add a packet of Pink Simply Collagen Beauty To Go into my morning cold brew. These collagen peptides are a perfect addition to my morning routine because not only is this collagen powder flavorless, gluten-free, and non-GMO, it also has 10g of collagen and 9g of protein per packet. Since Pink Simply Collagen Beauty comes individually packaged, when Rowan starts school again in the fall, I can toss a packet in my purse to add to my coffee later. You can also add this collagen supplement to juice, tea, water, protein shakes, smoothies, or even sprinkle it on top of oatmeal, yogurt, and anything else you may be eating throughout the day. Currently, Pink Simply Collagen To Go and other Pink products are available on Amazon for 20% off with the code 20SHAREPINK.
Taking Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies
As the kids wake up, I take my coffee to the kitchen to start making some breakfast. Some days the kids ask for eggs and fruit, other days its frozen waffles or cereal. I usually sneak some of their breakfast. I like to eat a more substantial meal after working out, so eating the kids’ leftovers is the perfect amount of food for me at this point in the morning. Big meal or small, as I am running around the kitchen, I like to take my gummy vitamins. Recently, I started adding Nature’s Truth Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies into my supplement routine. Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies taste yummy and not like trying to take a shot of ACV or adding it to your water, and there is no vinegar after taste. I also love that these gummies are Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, and Vegan.
Working Out at Home
After breakfast and getting the kids settled, I try and do a quick 30-minute workout. We recently received a hand me down exercise bike from Brady’s parents. Since the bike doesn’t have any tracking capabilities, I wear my Suunto 7 smartwatch to track my workout progress. With the watch, I can monitor my heart rate, calories burned, and time spent working out with the cycling sports mode. Not only can I follow my cycling progress with the watch, but there are also over 70 different sports modes to monitor whatever workout I chose to do. I usually keep the smartwatch on all day as I’m juggling mom duties and work tasks. It is the perfect accessory to keep me connected to my to-do list and view incoming text messages. Learn more about the Suunto 7 Smartwatch here: suunto.com/suunto7.
For me, a good pair of headphones is essential to a good workout. I like to grab my AfterShokz Solar Red Aeropex wireless headphones to listen to music while I am on my bike or doing a quick workout in the backyard while the kids run around. These headphones are perfect for moms because the earbuds rest right outside of your ear through bone conduction technology. No more putting anything inside your ear! These lightweight headphones allow for total awareness and comfort while wearing them and watching the kids at the same time. If you are looking for a good Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift, the AfterShokz Aeropex headphones are a great option and are 15% off through May 15th, 2020!
Getting Ready for The Day
Even though I work at home, I try to take the time to get ready every day after working out. Depending on the day and my kids’ moods, the way I get ready changes. But regardless of how much makeup I wear or the clothes I put on, I always make sure I am using a moisturizer with SPF. Vichy Liftactiv Peptide-C Sunscreen is the perfect base to throw on under my makeup or wear on its own on a makeup-free day. Not only does this sunscreen protect you from the sun, but it is also an anti-aging moisturizer and formulated with Vitamin C, which helps to brighten the skin. While we are spending more time at home, this is a great time to get into the habit of applying an SPF every morning!
Most mornings, when the weather is nice, I take the kids outside in the backyard. Sometimes I’ll work on my laptop as they dig holes and ride their bikes, and sometimes we’ll look for bugs together. Whatever the activity, I like to wear my No Nonsense Compression no show socks because they provide arch support and feel good compression that rejuvenates active feet. These socks are perfect for running around in the backyard and lounging around in the house afterward. They are also available as a crew sock, which will be amazing on colder mornings. Head to your local Rite Aid to see them for yourself!
Remember To Eat
After we play outside for a bit and I feed the kids lunch, it is nap time! Around 1 pm most days, I eat lunch by myself while the kids are in their rooms. I have always tried to take a lunch break and sit down while working from home. It’s a great way to reset and recharge. Sometimes I’ll have a salad, make a sandwich wrap, or eat some leftovers from dinner. Whatever I decide to make for lunch, I love using Healthy Choice Power Dressings to add a flavorful mix of herbs and spices to my meal. There are no artificial flavors, and the Healthy Choice Power Dressings are 45 calories or less per serving.
Read More For Fun
While I’m eating lunch, I have started to read instead of scrolling through my phone or catching up on my shows. I try to aim for 30 minutes a day of “free reading.” Since I used to read all the time before having kids, I love being able to schedule reading into my daily routine. I am currently reading Ignite Your Light by Jolene Hart (the author of Eat Pretty), and it’s the perfect thing to consume during these long days at home. This book is a simple, beautiful guide providing ways to bring joy and self-care back into your life. I have been enjoying reading about the unique ways self-care can be incorporated into your life and trying out some of the delicious recipes Jolene Hart created to support glowing skin!
Don’t Forget to Walk
I usually will try to clean up around the house and get some work done before the kids wake up from their naps because soon after the dinner and bedtime routine begins. If you’re a mom, you understand how tense and quick the next few hours can be, but my favorite part of the night is our after-dinner walk. It’s the perfect time to catch up with Brady and get some fresh air before settling down for the night.
Being able to incorporate small moments of self-care at home makes all the difference in my day. What do you do to focus on taking care of yourself while you are home with the kids?
