When we moved to Fresno a few months before Rowan was born, I had a hard time finding resources on the internet to help us figure out life here in our new area. But then we found Basilwood Farm in Fresno, California.
From what I have learned, if you want to find something to do, you need to talk to people who live in the Fresno area. I’ve noticed that Fresno events and activities operate well on word-of-mouth marketing. Even though Fresno is the fifth-largest city in California, it feels like a small town. You almost always run into someone you know out and about.
Basilwood Farm in Prather, CA
Last spring, one of our friends told us about a goat farm about 30 minutes outside of Fresno. The farm was hosting a spring fling event for their new baby goats. We didn’t know what to expect, but we jumped in our car and headed to the farm on the morning of the event. I mean, who can resist baby goats?
The drive out to the country is beautiful. If you know the area, the goat farm is on the way to Shaver Lake, nestled in the hills.
We were timid and shy the first time we went to the farm. We stayed close to the goats and chickens before heading back into town. I didn’t even go shopping for their goat soap! We did not take advantage of what the farm had to offer. The farm family treats everyone like old friends, and wandering around the farm is encouraged.
But this year, Rowan led us around the farm during the Spring Fling event. We met the baby goats, hung out with the chickens, shopped at the Basilwood Farms goat milk products, and explored.

Basilwood Farm is open to the public, usually on Saturdays from 10am – 3pm and on one weekday (which may vary). If you want to visit, I recommend checking their Instagram or Facebook. They are pretty good about updating their hours for the week.
During our last visit, I bought a few goat milk products to take home and try. I love the Coffee Dream Face Cream, The Dynamic Duo face soaps, and the White Ginger Deodorant. If you don’t live in the Central Valley, check out the Basilwood Farm Shop online.

I hope that you get a chance to spend a morning at the farm soon. I know I can’t wait until we can visit again. Last year, Basilwood hosted an event in June, and hopefully, they will again this year. I’ll keep you updated on that event since that would be a great time to visit.
